Delta By The Beach – Kris Kringle’s Crawl  b/w  Very Best Christmas This Year  (2022, C Street Records) 7 inch single

You may be reading this and saying to yourself, “TONE, why are you writing about a Christmas record when Christmas has passed?” Well, my quickest response would be to say, “Guess what? There’s going to be more Christmas’s.” However, that is not why I’ve chosen to want to make you [who are reading], privy to this fantastic record. Yes, this is a Christmas themed record, and yes Christmas 2022 has literally just passed (by the time you read this), but this is a fantastic Delta Blues-style 7” 45rpm record, by a fantastic Blues line-up and I think should be in the collection of every Blues music fan. Delta By The Beach is a three-man Blues line-up coming out of North Los Angeles (Ventura, CA) with three very well respected and seasoned professional Blues and Jazz men.  Both songs – “Kris Kringle’s Crawl” and “Very Best Christmas This Year” – impressed me (not just because I’m a sucker for Christmas music), because if you simple want to ignore the subject matter of the songs, these are two damn good Delta Blues rippers, that can be listened to all year long. The band is led by the well-known Doc Ventura, whose lead vocals and bass guitar flow ‘durty’ yet cleanly throughout both tracks, and with a down-home kind of richness. Milo Sledge; another well respected and well known musician out of the North Los Angeles region of Ventura County, rides through each of the songs with a Blues lead guitar style that can hang with literally any Blues icon. Behind the ‘trap set’ [drums] sits Eddie Layman, a Blues and [mostly] Jazz drummer who has played professionally and recorded internationally, and who seals the deal for this band, like he was meant to be there.  As 'icing on the cake', the iconic Blues harmonica player – R.J. Mischo – is a featured artist on the lead single, and rips an awesome lead Blues harp, as he's known to do.  I definitely recommend this 7 inch single, but I’ll tell you what – their full-length album – The Single of the Month – is available as well.
